Contributed by: Ms. Adel Licos, Ayala Foundation Inc.

The Waste Market is a one-day collection event for recyclables organized by the Ayala Foundation, Inc. and the Philippine Business for the Environment in cooperation with the National Solid Waste Management Commission and DENR. It replicates the annual Earth Day Recyclables Collection Event held annually since 2002 to generate more public support for the recycling industry.

Initially, the Monthly Waste Market was pilot tested in Makati and Muntinlupa cities but was later replicated at the Bonifacio Global City in Taguig City on a quarterly basis and was also launched by the SM Supermalls in SM City - Fairview. The Waste Market aims for greater participation of the commercial and residential areas of the host cities as well as its neighboring communities in support of the RA 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000.
